How to Create a Hotel Vibe At Home

Home sweet hospitality.

One way we love to elevate any home space with an extra dose of chic is to borrow bits and pieces of design inspiration from our favorite hotel interiors. The most stylish boutique hotels at the top of our travel bucket list always create an atmosphere of jet-setter luxury, from lobbies to lounges to bars to bedrooms, and it's these vacation vibes that we love to bring home. After all, everyone deserves a little luxury in their day-to-day routine, and we certainly don't want anyone's staycation to skimp on style, either.

Sure, we collect inspiration anytime we travel, work or pleasure. But do you want to know a secret? Some of the best hotel vibes are served up from the comfort of your own computer (or phone). That's right: Consort's Pinterest page is a great place to search for and save inspiring images that fit the look you're going for with your latest project, including getting that hotel vibe at home.

At Hotel Panache Paris, the vibes are très chic. Would you expect anything less from a Parisian boutique hotel? Let these sophisticated lobby vibes inspire you to mix together luxe materials like velvet, marble, leather, and brass. Le swoon.

You may not be able to bring the concept of turndown service back to your bedroom at home (though a mint on the pillow is always a nice touch!), but you can accessorize your nightstand to evoke that luxe traveler life. Start with a stylish table lamp, a vase for fresh flowers, and a catchall tray or box to keep things clutter-free.

11 Howard has become our NYC home-away-from-home, and for good reason: this Soho spot serves up modern Scandinavian design inspiration in a chic muted color palette. With understated (and trending) color choices of pink and dusty blue mixed with neutrals, the space is eclectic but retains focus. We couldn't have designed it better ourselves.

Some hotel rooms make your jaw drop upon entry, begging you to simply slip into a robe and never leave. While that may not be realistic (everyone has to go back to reality someday), you can certainly bring home a slice of the suite life to keep those luxe feelings flowing.

At Reykjavík's Oddsson Hotel, comfortable, low-slung seating fills the lobby with design you can sink into. Against an industrial backdrop, we're inspired by the way the reception counter uses wood patterns to create a geometric design that nods to Op Art. Before you check in, you already have the feeling of being upgraded.

The same principles apply for creating wow factor in a hotel room as do at home. A few textural statement pieces coupled with editorial art can give any nook that hotel-inspired appeal. Because catching up on a good book doesn't require getting away (though that doesn't hurt, either); you just need a luxe lounge chair moment.

If it's the luxe lobby look you're after, take note of the way some of our favorite hotel lobbies combine light and dark. Richer hues in upholstery and drapery can be offset with metallic, clear, or even iridescent finishes in accent pieces. And you can never go wrong with a little dramatic lighting to brighten up the room.

At the end of the day, some of the most memorable hotel experiences and designs are all about greeting guests in style. Which is why we always recommend a welcoming message that makes you smile somewhere in the home (complete with a Consort twist, of course).
